BI Splitter

Privacy Policy

Privacy First

Your privacy matters. BI Splitter is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal information with third parties. This policy explains what data the app uses and why.

Last updated: October 2, 2026

1. Data We Collect

BI Splitter does not collect any data from you directly. All information you enter — restaurant names, item prices, people's names, phone numbers, payment handles (Zelle email/phone, Venmo username, Cash App tag), your custom PDF logo and header color, and bill history — is stored locally on your device only using Core Data and UserDefaults.

We never transmit this data to our servers.

2. Contacts Access

BI Splitter may request access to your device's Contacts so you can quickly add people to a bill. This access is entirely optional.

3. Camera & Photo Library Access

BI Splitter may request camera and/or photo library access so you can scan receipts, attach a receipt photo to a bill, and (Pro) choose a logo image for your exported PDFs.

4. Receipt Parsing (AI Feature)

When you scan a receipt and use the AI parsing feature, the raw OCR text lines extracted from your receipt are sent to OpenAI's API to identify line items and prices. No personal information, names, or phone numbers are included in this request — only the plain text of the scanned receipt.

Please review OpenAI's Privacy Policy for information on how they handle API data.

You can use the manual item entry feature at any time to avoid using this network feature entirely.

5. Payment Requests (Venmo) & Payment Info (Zelle/Venmo/Cash App)

The Request button on a person's row opens Venmo's charge-request screen via a deep link (or a pre-filled text message if Venmo isn't installed). BI Splitter does not process payments itself, never sees your or anyone else's financial account details, and has no access to any transaction. All payment handling happens entirely within Venmo, Messages, or the recipient's own banking app.

The Zelle email/phone, Venmo username, and Cash App tag you optionally enter (per bill, or saved as Pro defaults) are stored locally on your device and only used to display that information on your exported PDF — they are never transmitted anywhere by BI Splitter.

6. In-App Purchase (Pro Unlock)

BI Splitter offers a one-time "Pro Unlock" purchase via Apple's StoreKit. All payment processing, billing information, and transaction records are handled entirely by Apple — BI Splitter never sees or stores your payment details. We only check with Apple whether your device holds a valid Pro entitlement (via StoreKit's on-device transaction APIs) to decide whether to show Pro features. Restoring a previous purchase uses Apple's own StoreKit sync and does not involve any server of ours. Please see Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles purchase data.

7. Bill Sharing (Deep Links)

BI Splitter lets you share a bill with another device using a deep link (a billsplit:// URL). The bill data is encoded directly into the link. You share this link manually via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop. We do not operate any server or relay for this feature — the link goes directly from your device to the recipient's device.

8. Analytics & Tracking

BI Splitter does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking libraries. We do not track your behavior across apps or websites.

9. Children's Privacy

BI Splitter is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
